The Principles of Naturopathic Medicine: A Path Back to Nature

At Bring Us Back to Nature, we believe that true healing is not about masking symptoms but about addressing the root cause of illness and restoring balance to the body, mind, and spirit. Naturopathic medicine is built on a foundation of timeless principles that guide every aspect of care. These principles are not just philosophies—they are a way of life, a way to reconnect with the natural rhythms that have sustained humanity for thousands of years.

Let’s explore these principles and how they shape the care I provide to every patient.

1. The Healing Power of Nature

Vis Medicatrix Naturae

Nature has an incredible ability to heal. The human body is equipped with an innate intelligence—a Vital Force—that constantly works to maintain balance and restore health. This principle is the cornerstone of naturopathic medicine.

At its core, this principle means that my role as a naturopathic doctor is to support and stimulate your body’s natural healing processes. By removing obstacles to healing and providing the right tools we can awaken the Vital Force within you.

In Practice:

  • I use therapies like hydrotherapy, homeopathy, and applied kinesiology to stimulate your body’s healing response.

  • I encourage patients to reconnect with nature through grounding, seasonal eating, and mindful movement, which are simple yet profound ways to activate the Vital Force.

  • There are visible and invisible forces that are dampening your Vital Force.  Applied Kinesiology will help me talk with your body to uncover what these forces are, how they are hurting you and how and what you can do to heal this to have a stronger force within

2. First, Do No Harm

Primum Non Nocere

The first priority in all medicine is to avoid causing harm. This principle emphasizes the importance of gentle, non-invasive treatments that work in harmony with the body rather than against it.

In my practice, I choose therapies that are safe and effective, always considering the long-term impact on your health. I avoid suppressing symptoms without understanding their root cause, as symptoms are often your body’s way of communicating its needs.

In Practice:

  • I use muscle testing to ensure that each treatment is tailored to your body’s unique needs, avoiding unnecessary trial and error.

  • I focus on gentle but powerful therapies that support your body’s natural processes, such as herbal remedies, lifestyle adjustments, and mindset work.

3. Discover and Treat the Cause

Tolle Causam

Symptoms are only the surface of a deeper story. Naturopathic medicine seeks to uncover and address the root cause of illness, rather than simply managing symptoms.

This principle is why your initial consultation with me is two hours long. I take the time to understand your full health history, your lifestyle, and your unique experiences. By identifying the underlying cause—whether it’s a nutritional deficiency, hormonal imbalance, or emotional trauma—we can create a treatment plan that truly heals.

In Practice:

  • I use a combination of modern diagnostics and traditional techniques to identify the root cause of your health concerns.

  • My treatment plans address not just the chemical body but also the emotional and physical aspects of healing as well.

4. Treat the Whole Person

Tolle Totum

You are more than just a collection of symptoms. Naturopathic medicine views each patient as a whole person, considering the physical, chemical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of health.

This holistic approach recognizes that every system in the body is interconnected. For example, digestive health can impact hormonal balance, and emotional stress can manifest as physical symptoms. By addressing all aspects of your health, we can create lasting, transformative change.

In Practice:

  • My treatments often include a combination of physical adjustments, nutritional support, and emotional healing techniques like Neuro Emotional Technique (NET).

  • I also consider external factors like your environment, relationships, and daily habits when creating your personalized care plan.

5. The Physician as Teacher

Docere

Education is empowerment. As a naturopathic doctor, one of my most important roles is to teach my patients how to care for their health and make informed decisions.

I believe that when you understand your body and its needs, you can take control of your health and create lasting change. My goal is to provide you with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to become your own best healer.  Check out my educational YouTube Channel here and stay tuned for my Healing Retreats to immerse in the healing outside of your home.

In Practice:

  • I take the time to explain the “why” behind every recommendation, so you feel confident and supported in your journey.

  • Through workshops, blogs, videos, retreats, and one-on-one consultations, I teach patients how to integrate naturopathic principles into their daily lives.

  • My ultimate goal is to work myself out of a job because every person in the world knows how to listen to and invigorate their own Vital Force to heal their lives!

6. Prevention is the Best Cure

Praevenire

True health is about prevention, not just treatment. Naturopathic medicine focuses on identifying risk factors and addressing them before they become serious health concerns.

By creating a strong foundation of health through proper nutrition, regular movement, stress management, and connection with nature, we can prevent illness and promote longevity.

In Practice:

  • I work with patients to create daily habits that support long-term health, such as mindful eating, hydration, and restorative sleep.

  • I also offer tools like seasonal detoxes and immune-boosting protocols to keep your body resilient year-round.

  • One of the amazing things about muscle testing is that is predicts the future of health because it is tuning into your vital force and seeing where the imbalances are, before they manifest into full-blown health problems or diseases.

Healing the Way Nature Intended

These principles are more than just guidelines—they are the heart of everything I do at Bring Us Back to Nature. They remind us that healing is not about quick fixes but about creating a life that supports balance, vitality, and connection with the natural world.
